Der Pluto ist der äusserste Planet des Sonnensystems.
Er wurde erst 1930 entdeckt und 2006 als Zwergplanet eingestuft.
Am 14. Juli 2015 flog die NASA Sonde New Horizons in 12 500 km Entfernung an Pluto vorbei und lieferte bis anhin unerreichte Aufnahmen von Pluto
und seinem grössten Mond Charon.
Charon ist mit 1 200 km Durchmesser ähnlich gross und weniger als 20 000 km von Pluto entfernt. Man könnte dieses System daher fast als „Doppelkleinplanet“
bezeichnen.
Charon und Pluto rotieren in 6,4 Erdtagen um den gemeinsamen Massenschwerkunkt, der 1 200 km ausserhalb von Pluto liegt.

Wanderers on the edge of the solar system

Pluto is the outermost planet in the solar system.
It was only discovered in 1930 and was classified as a dwarf planet in 2006.
On July 14, 2015, NASA's New Horizons probe flew past Pluto at a distance of 12,500 km and provided previously unattainable images of Pluto and its largest moon Charon.
Charon is similarly large, 1,200 km in diameter, and is less than 20,000 km away from Pluto.
This system could therefore almost be described as a “double minor planet”.
Charon and Pluto rotate around the common center of mass, which is 1,200 km outside Pluto, in 6.4 Earth days.
